Parkway Partners Program, Inc.
Founded in 1982, Parkway Partners is the non-profit citizen-action arm of the New Orleans Department of Parks and Parkways. The organization\'s mission is to empower residents to improve quality of life through the preservation, maintenance and beautification of neutral grounds, green spaces, playgrounds, parks, community and schoolyard gardens, and the urban forest in New Orleans. Since Hurricane Katrina, Parkway Partners\' top priority has been the ReLeaf New Orleans initiative, a city wide campagin to restore New Orleans\' urban canopy, which lost nearly 75% of its trees in the storm and floods. Most of the agency\'s work is carried out by volunteers. In addition to the ReLeaf New Orleans campaign, Parkway Partners operates community and schoolyard gardens programs, park and streetscape maintenance programs and free monthly seminars regarding gardening and community forestry issues.
